Noise Models in the Nonlinear Spectral Domain for Optical Fibre Communications

چکیده
Existing works on building a soliton transmission system only encode information using the imaginary part of the eigenvalue, which fails to make full use of the signal degree-of-freedoms. Motivated by this observation, we make the first step of encoding information using (discrete) spectral amplitudes by proposing analytical noise models for the spectral amplitudes of N -solitons (N ≥ 1). To our best knowledge, this is the first work in building an analytical noise model for spectral amplitudes, which leads to many interesting information theoretic questions, such as channel capacity analysis, and has a potential of increasing the transmission rate. The noise statistics of the spectral amplitude of a soliton are also obtained without the Gaussian approximation.

Effect of Nonlinear Phase Variation in Optical Millimetre Wave Radio over Fibre Systems
In this paper, we propose an optical millimetre wave radio-over-fibre (mm-wave RoF) system that uses a dual drive Mach Zehnder modulator (DD-MZM), which is biased at the maximum transmission biasing point, to generate an optical double sideband-suppressed carrier. The input to the DD-MZM are binary phase shift keying (BPSK), quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK), 8-phase shift keying (8-PSK) and...
متن کاملNonlinear limits to the information capacity of optical fiber communications
The exponential growth in the rate at which information can be communicated through an optical fiber is a key element in the so called information revolution. However, like all exponential growth laws, there are physical limits to be considered. The nonlinear nature of the propagation of light in optical fiber has made these limits difficult to elucidate. Here we obtain basic insights into the ...
متن کاملImprovement of Optical Properties in Hexagonal Index-guiding Photonic Crystal Fiber for Optical Communications
Waveguides with low confinement loss, low chromatic dispersion, and low nonlinear effects are used in optical communication systems. Optical fibers can also be employed in such systems. Besides optical fibers, photonic crystal fibers are also highly suitable transmission media for optical communication systems. In this paper, we introduce two new designs of index-guiding photonic crystal fiber ...
متن کاملInverse four-wave-mixing and self-parametric amplification effect in optical fibre
An important group of nonlinear processes in optical fibre involves the mixing of four waves due to the intensity dependence of the refractive index. It is customary to distinguish between nonlinear effects that require external/pumping waves (cross-phase modulation and parametric processes such as four-wave mixing) and self-action of the propagating optical field (self-phase modulation and mod...
متن کاملSupercontinuum Generation in a Highly Nonlinear Chalcogenide/ MgF2 Hybrid Photonic Crystal Fiber
In this paper, we report the numerical analysis of a photonic crystal fiber (PCF) for generating an efficient supercontinuum medium. For our computational studies, the core of the proposed structure is made up of As2Se3 and the cladding structure consists of an inner ring of holes made up As2Se3 and four outer rings of air holes in MgF2. The proposed structure provides excellent nonlinear coeff...
